Chitrakmool (Plumbago zeylanica) is a medicinal plant, the roots of which have a compound called Plumbagin. It is found to be effective in the development of antibiotic resistance when used on antibiotic sensitive strains of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The bacterial growth is completely stopped when the bacteria were grown in a medium containing antibiotic and plumbagin together. Whereas there was delayed growth when the same bacteria was grown only on antibiotic (streptomycin/ rifampicin) medium. This experiment shows that plumbagin has properties that prevent the development of antibiotic-resistant cells.
Chitrakmool improves digestive strength and relieves indigestion. It is found in our product “PACHNAM LIQUID”.
